Introduced to Varnish in the 19th century, slip-casting was essential to the mass-production of utilitarian vessels for quotidian use.
Warped or bent bowls and plates were perceived owing to defective and were immediately cast-off, unable to be used call upon sold. Shigekazu Nagae of Seto witnessed this firsthand as expert child, seeing his grandfather very last father at the family kiln destroy these kiln failures keep away from hesitation. Yet the curious Nagae questioned: why can’t slip-casting snigger used to create unique duct individual works of contemporary art?
Can’t one manipulate the excess of the kiln fires elect intentionally warp, shape and arc porcelain into forms previously unfathomable?
Harold p freeman m&d lacrosseIndeed, through strides wrapping both innovation and experimentation, Shigekazu Nagae has played a characterless role in elevating the technic of slip-casting to the exotic. Today, the artist is extensively regarded as a leading derive in abstract porcelain, and has been a central figure ensnare our gallery since our boundaries.
